This was the first time renting a sleeper van, as we usually just tent camp. I was so thankful to have the shelter and a comfortable place to sleep because the winds where we camped gusted from 20-30mph which would have made tent camping miserable. If you're thinking about trying this, I'd highly recommend. As for the van, I would definitely rent it again! The goods -
Reservation and pick up were very easy. Although renting through Outdoorsy, you'd think you're signing a mortgage for a new house.
Quality, cleanliness, and amenities in the van were great - bed, microwave, single ceramic stove top, mini-fridge, kitchen sink, wet area with shower and toilet, and water heater. Plenty of water in a 100 liter (26g) freshwater tank. On our stay we used a fraction of the water but primarily used it for dishes and the toilet. The toilet has an easily removed cartridge for dumping down the appropriate drain. Have this for camping was a real game changer for comfort and enjoyment!Areas to improve - the listing mentions being able to use everything "off grid". We were off grid, and just about everything worked as intended which was great! The one item that probably consumed too much power was the ceramic stove top. Anytime we tried to use that, it would overload the inverter/batteries. (It was a cold weekend, so never tried the Air Conditioning.)The vehicle has an electric hook up which would likely take care of that. Important to note, the vehicle does not come with a cable for electric hook up. We were told this up front, but we knew we didn't have the hook up anyway. The Pro's definitely outweigh the cons with this vehicle. I would rent it again any time we go camping, just keeping in mind some of the minor electrical limitations. With hook up, I'd get the cable, but if I were off grid, would probably take a small propane burner for cooking. After using this van, not sure I'll be able to tent camp again! :)
