2017 Mercedes Sprinter
This is our fifth Sprinter build conversion-rental, we call her "Mexicali Rose". The 2017 2wd Sprinter was purchased in the eastern US, and detoured by way of Baja California, Mexico, for few weeks before trekking home to Alaska up the Alcan in January. Now in the last phase of construction in our shop in Talkeetna, she will be renting spring 2024. This interior build is a duplicate of our 2022 Mercedes Sprinter 4x4 that we have built especially for use in Alaska Boondocking. We are one of the most experienced builder-renters in the state, and love what we do. Lets us help you with planning a memorable Alaskan Journey.Like our 2014 2wd, this van is super easy to drive and park. It's also built for anyone over 6ft tall with a true full size queen bed.Anchorage van pickups at or close to the airport are easily arranged between 9am and 8pm. Most of the time we'll pick you up upon your arrival at Ted Stevens Airport or at a local hotel free of charge. Please refer to our other three vans, "2022 Mercedes Sprinter 4x4 High Roof""2021 Mercedes-Frieghtliner Sprinter 4x4 High Roof" and "2014 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter High Roof 144 2wd" for our extensive experience, rental history, and excellent reviews. This van was constructed winter-spring of 2024. It is 2-Wheel-Drive (with traction control) and is 19 feet long. The van is designed to be fully self-contained NOT needing electrical hookups, and features a 400-watt solar system that easily meets the needs of most summer trips. You'll charge the system from the sun and when the truck is in running. This Mercedes Sprinter is meticulously maintained, and comes with an extensive road emergency kit. This 3.0L V-6 Turbodiesel truck is the gold standard of functionality and gets up to 18 mpg. It's a joy to drive on the Alaskan open road.
We've added a gps, backup camera-dash screen that will interface with your phone. What's includedThe van is fully stocked with coffee, tea, basic spices, and complete bedding with one set of towels per rental. There are cooking utensils, a stove, pots, pans, plates, cups, and two chairs with a portable table for sitting outside. A stored compost bag toilet is easy to use and stores in a compartment. A bike rack can be added, and mountain bikes can be rented.Exceptionally comfortable for two people even if you're six feet tall, there is an eight-inch gel foam full-sized queen bed that runs parallel with the van allowing a super roomy sleep. This allows greater comfort for anyone over six feet tall.
Insulated and crafted with local spruce and birch. The counter is walnut and there is extensive LED lighting and even two dimmable reading lights with USB charger ports for reading in bed. Besides the refrigerator, there is a soft cooler for extra items and the van holds 25 gallons of potable water. The super-quiet interior ceiling fan has a remote control pulls cool air in or push the warm air out. There is a marine heater that works wonderfully, just push a button. In short, show up with sunglasses, hat, rain-gear and your good to go.RecommendationsMany of our guests travel to Denali National Park, Denali State Park, Talkeetna (the van's home), Hatcher Pass, Thompson Pass, Fairbanks, Chena Hot Springs, Seward, Valdez, and Homer. We are one of the only vendors in Alaska that allow travel to McCarthy and crossing the Denali Highway. You may use the Alaska Ferry System from Whittier to Valdez.Other things to note
We are one of the only vendors that "DO" allow travel to McCarthy and crossing the Denali Highway with a maximum 35mph speed limit. Please understand that there's no cell service on those two highways. We "DO NOT" allow driving north of Chena Hot Springs just a few miles north of Fairbanks. No travel is allowed to Manley Hotsprings, Circle, or Coldfoot. That includes any part of the Dalton Highway-HWY 11, HWY 2 (north of Chena), or HWY 6.The van must not enter Canada. When traveling on gravel roads, speed is limited to 35mph. Please note that our vans are GPS'd and report your location and speed-driven hourly. Travel is only allowed on State or Borough maintained roads. Please leave the van with a full tank of diesel, and remove all the trash and perishables.

I live year-round in Talkeetna, Alaska, and in the summer run a fly fishing guiding business in addition to building and renting wilderness cabins. Most of my off-season is working as a Journalist for numerous national periodicals and websites. If you're in Alaska, please pick up one of my books, Tales of the Alaska State Troopers, from Skyhorse Publishing. We often have our standard poodle Millie in tow and she loves to meet our renters.
