1982 Volkswagen Westfalia
My Westfalia "Buttercup" was picked up in Great Falls Montana in 2017 and driven here to the Bay Area with my 9 year old co-pilot. What an adventure! The road trip/camping was a blast. Glad to report we made it safe and sound but it was not without some drama. Her ticker (engine) was not the best and she needed more than a few tows to get us on home. Since we've been home I have had her engine, transmission, tires, shocks, clutch, fuel pump, brakes and propane tank replaced. I am happy to say she is now road worthy. My Buttercup is not for the faint of heart. She has manual transmission, no power steering, no power windows, and no air-conditioning. This is a "Westy" adventure that you will remember fondly for years to come. You will truly enjoy the unique driving and camping experience of this classic wonder. You could drive a more updated camper van but they are not as cool or fun to drive as my Buttercup. Everyone loves the Westfalia. It makes people smile and dream, more than any other camper van can. We just completed another road trip (with no drama) and have nothing but great memories to share. We are now regular campers and just love all her features. The best is the pop up top that allows us to sleep under the stars in style and comfort. Other features include a working propane stove, a sink, a small refrigerator (works best with electric hookup), and captain chair up front. If you like camping off the grid, as I do, don't worry she is equipped with a solar panel and dual batteries. We were only two on our recent adventure but feel she will fit 3-4 comfortably.

We had a great time exploring the area in Buttercup! Communication was great with Patricia and everything was as expected. Patricia even loaded us up with blankets and everything we needed for camping.

Great experience all around! Patricia was very friendly and accommodating - even supplied blankets, extra water and propane. Buttercup is a delightful camper van! Super cute, very clean, everything works perfectly (stove, refrigerator, lights, etc.). Highly recommend!

Q.What flexibility is available for picking up and dropping off the RV?
A.
I am very flexible with picking up and drop off times. Early pickup usually works well for me. I will ask for early return if there is an immediate turn around with another renter. (This insures Buttercup is as clean and as ready to go as she will be for you. ) Otherwise I'm ok with later afternoon. Preferably during daylight so we can do a proper handoff.
Q.How familiar do I need to be with a manual transmission?
A.
Very. Please do not choose Buttercup as a fun rental experience if you are not proficient with a manual transmission. It is very easy to burn out a clutch from riding it when inexperienced and you will be held responsible for the expense of replacing it. I say this because it has happened and it is not enjoyable for anyone. Not only that it is very dangerous and we want to keep you safe.
